Before HomePod: History of the short-lived iPod Hi-Fi That's how Steve Jobs opened the keynote nearly 12 years ago. What followed was announcing the first Intel-based Mac mini, $99 leather iPod cases, and the $349 iPod Hi-Fi. With a low-key launch, Apple unveiled its first home speaker designed to compete [...]
Apple's Previous Home Stereo Attempt: the iPod Hi-Fi Newer iPods could sit atop the Hi-Fi, but a Dock adaptor was required, and the iPod would run on its own battery power. In front of the Dock were a pair of recessed, touch-sensitive buttons for volume control. Volume and playback could be adjusted with [...]

Bose SoundDock 10 Digital Music System The minimalism extends to the back of the system: All you'll find is a power adapter connection, a 3.5mm Aux input to connect non-Apple players, and a Composite video out so you can hook the system up to an external display. (No cable for either is [...]
You must hear the Core to believe it. It’s one of the best speakers you can buy, and even challenges Sonos and other multi-room audio solutions. Out of the box The box might give the impression that the Core is bigger than it really is, and that’s partly because a third of it had to be allocated for all the cables included inside. The main power supply comes with separate plugs for North America, Europe, Australia, and the U. K. A red-and-white RCA audio cable is also thrown in, ostensibly for connecting directly to a TV, although there are a few other ways to do that. A gray case for the Core made of cloth is layered on top of the cables, along with a small packet that includes the quick setup guides, the Core’s soundbar remote, and a microfiber cloth to keep handy.
But just when I was ready to concede I expected too much, Riva came along with the Turbo X and proved I had every right to expect more. You may find lighter, more rugged, or more portable battery-powered Bluetooth speakers out there, but you won’t find anything else that combines such superb sound quality with must-have features. Here’s why the Riva Turbo X is now my favorite portable Bluetooth speaker. In the box with the speaker is an RCA (male) to 3. 5mm (male) cable and a 3. 5 mm to 3. 5 mm.

As Apple’s iPod has become a cultural phenomenon akin to Sony’s Walkman, the market for iPod accessories has exploded—some of the biggest names in computer and home audio have responded with systems specifically made for the iPod (and, just as significantly, incompatible with other portable players). Bose has recently joined the fray with its $300 SoundDock speaker system, which uses the now-familiar dock connector base for iPod connectivity. Featuring a glossy white body and large,...
For those of us who follow iPod accessories, it's difficult to believe that it's been nearly four years since Bose's original SoundDock was released, making it one of first "desktop" speaker systems for the iPod. Perhaps just as surprising is that while most of the other big vendors of iPod gear have revised their speaker lines several times over that period, Bose has continued selling essentially the same SoundDock, at the same $299 price, that it released back in 2004.So when Bose announced...
