Ear-Cup (Over the Ear)
The Denon AH-D2000 is the sought after classic of a famous line of bio-cellulose dynamic driver headphones. This is the original design that would spur the development of the AH-D5000, AH-D7000, AH-D600, AH-D7100, Fostex models such as the TH-600, TH-900, and E-Mu wood variants.
Fundamentally, the D2000 brings you the performance of those headphones but also brings you a more neutral sound signature that appeals to both professionals and audiophiles. The D2000 has a very linear frequency curve from it's deep sub-bass presentation up to the high-end. The uppermost treble is tilted up, to bring the correct emphasis for dynamic master recordings.
The bass lacks the traditional mid-bass hump prevalent on many consumer cans, yet the D2000 has plenty of kick and rumble. It has very good power handling, and will respond to an EQ should you want to turn up the bass or roll of the high-end. Likely, you'll find the D2000 balance perfect.
This model is in very condition, and both headband and earpads are barely used. This is not typical, as most D2000s have seen plenty of use, and a hallmark of this is bending and irregularities in the headband. This is my second, and most pristine set. The one I am keeping, is 'broken in' and they sound almost identical, but you will notice that the bass becomes more impactful overtime as the pads settle. To get an idea of what they will sound like in time, lightly press the cups against the sides of your head.
The D2000 is actually a semi-open design, but it does provide a degree of isolation, but will leak sound at louder volumes, unlike a true sealed can. The benefits are worth it though, and you will get a spacious sound, deep extended bass that works as well for classical as it does electronic music, beautiful mid-range that rivals cans such as the HD650, and a sparkly clear treble. One of my favorites from my collectionh that I hope you enjoy!
