Outlaw Audio RR2150 stereo receiver - Stereophile Magazine

Wilson Audio Specialties' David Wilson likes to say that you should build a stereo system from the speakers down. I tried driving Wilson's $45,000/pair MAXX2 speakers with Outlaw Audio's RR2150, a $599 stereo receiver. While I was at it, I switched to some long lengths of speaker cable and sidled the receiver up to the foot of the Continuum Audio Labs Castellon turntable stand ($24,999), on which stood Continuum's Caliburn turntable with Cobra tonearm ($65,000).... Despite its low price, the RR2150 harks back to a time when stereo receivers were taken seriously. Sound Advice: SVS Prime Tower speakers put out highest level of sound - Minneapolis Star Tribune

Q: I recently purchased the Outlaw Audio RR2150 Stereo Receiver based on your recommendation and would like to purchase speakers that complement it. What do you recommend. I have a budget of $1,200. My listening room is 1,200 square feet, and I listen mostly to country, followed by classic rock and older top 100 stuff. A: Earlier this year I wrote about the Prime Satellite system from Ohio-based SVS speakers. In a short amount of time, this system has become widely regarded as the best surround-sound speaker system you can buy for $1,000. I recently tested the tower speakers from the Prime series and was similarly impressed. The SVS Prime Towers come in a simulated wood finish for $1,000 and Piano Black Gloss for $1,200. The Black Gloss models are very beautiful.

Throwback FM tuner dials up an audiophile's wish list

The Emotiva BasX TA-100 combines past with present as it marks the return of the affordable high-end stereo receiver.Years ago there were dozens of stereo receivers available, including some high-end models that retailed for under $500. This allowed someone to build a distinctive, high-quality system without breaking the bank. Nowadays, most receivers are surround sound, and their performance is compromised compared with dedicated stereo models. If music is your system's purpose, then a...
